The headbolts that are used for the S14 (E30 M3) and the S38 (all variations of M5 engine 6 cyl.) are the best headbolts that BMW ever made. They're so good in fact that the Gruppe A & Gruppe N repair manuals clearly state that when rebuilding the engine the OLD bolts are to be reused and NOT replaced.

Granted before you do this you will also want to unbolt the engine mount bolts that go into the subframe and support the engine
M323i; I went in and told them I was there for a free inspection for my subframe, because of a recall, and that BMW was taking care of all repair costs, he said yes. Then I asked if they would be dropping the frame, they said thats the only way to do a through check, so they dropped the frame and started clearing and inspecting.. The E46 drive train (engine and transmission) is supported by a system of mounts. In front, the engine rests on two engine mounts, one on each side of the engine. At the rear, the transmission rests on a pair of mounts, which are bolted to a support crossbeam underneath the vehicle. 373 posts · Joined 2015. #2 · May 7, 2020. I got fairly lucky with mine, $1650 CAD for a shop to install Redish V2 plates, Powerflex Subframe & RTAB bushings, and OEM diff bushings. Then I heckled them since they "forgot" to do the diff bushings, so they refunded me $600. Then another $850ish USD for the Vincebar, and I DIY'd that.

Really should only take two to three hours. 4 to 5 hours is unreasonably low, especially considering these are not a common job performed. A reasonable shop would charge around 10 hours.
On average, the cost of a subframe replacement is $300 to $1,600, depending on if you decide to perform this as a DIY project or take it to the mechanic. The price range for subframe replacement costs is based on national averages for all vehicles and doesn’t consider your make or model or any additional fees or taxes. Table of Contents show. The lady said it would cost about 8k+ and bmw is is agreeing to pay 1/2 of it. Today the lady called back again. They want me to have bmw shop estimate and repair whatever they find wrong with the car in order for BMW Northa Amarica to pay for 1/2 the cost of repairs on sub frame. The reinforcement plates are designed to keep it from tearing, not fix the tear. You're going to need to have the rear floor replaced. Again, this is the proper and correct way to fix this, and I understand that people around the forums are welding in various things to fix it DIY. My opinion on a 323 is that it's simple just not worth it. B4GI8.
